Stock/ Ready-made Artificial Eye Vs. Customize Artificial Eye... KPEC- Kolkata

After introduced briefly about prosthetic eye according to its work and definition and a lot of example, we should know about its types, there are many prosthetic eye or artificial eye sells at our market readily but some prosthetic eyes only made for the particular patient who really need it in a proper way.

In generally there are two types of Prosthetic Eye available,

1. Stock eye/ Ready-made Ocular Prosthesis,

2. Customize Ocular Prosthesis (COP).

Let us elaborate about both, individually.

1. STOCK EYE/ READY-MADE OCULAR PROSTHESIS...

1. Stock eye is a kind of ocular prosthesis or artificial eye which are basically mass-produce and fitted into the socket by against the rules

2. Stock eye fitting is totally depends upon trial and error method.

3. Stock eye, that can fit to any patient's eye socket.

4. Stock eye's measurement or size is universal to fit into an eye socket, that is what it can fit to any one eyed person's empty eye socket easily, even the fitting is proper or not that is another matter.

5. Stock eye dose not matches with the fellow eye or original eye properly by Iris color and Scleral color, not even 20%, the cosmesis level is usually very low.

6. The material from which Stock eye usually made, is a garbage-low/ poor quality acrylic dust, that is very harmful to the any types of eye socket, especially for the Phthisical eye.

7. An well shaped empty eye socket could be changed permanently cause of Stock eye's prolong uses.

8. The comfort level with the stock eye is too much low.
(The Stock eye's back surface dose not lies properly over the eye socket's front surface, that's is why there is a huge gap generates in between prosthetic's back and eye socket's front surface, and the gap creates lot of discharge and infection which is not comfortable any way.)

9. Side effects likes, Discharging, Socket-Infection, Watering, Disposition over the prosthesis are every day's matter and this type of prosthetic does not allows to sleep over-night with it.

10. A Stock eye users can not be happy to use it ever, neither comfortably nor cosmetically.

11. There is no proper way to maintain of a Stock eye.

12. Stock eye is breakable and is not modifiable.

13. Last of all, there is no requirement of any Expert/ Specialist (OCULARIST) to fit this prosthesis to any one eyed person, that is what Stock eye users Ethically, dose not get any suggestion, information for maintenance, any follow-up visit from Expert ever.

Now,

2. Customize Ocular Prosthesis (COP)/ Customize Artificial Eye...

1. COP is a type of Ocular prosthesis/ artificial eye that is totally fabricated and fitted into the socket with the proper rules.

2. COP fitting depends upon some procedures likes, Counselling, Impression taking, Wax modeling, Cast molding, Painting and Dispensing

3. A COP can fit to a patient only, cause of, eye socket varies patient to patient and a COP usually made according to an individual eye socket.

4. A COP can match easily with the fellow/ original eye till 95% of overall color and fittings.
After fitting the COP can move (ocular motility) till 60% as compare with the original eye.

5. The material from which COP usually made by medically approved, high-quality, health-friendly acrylic that is very much safe to eye socket.

6. The Comfort level and Soothing effects are sufficient with a COP.

(A COP lies properly over an empty socket and there is no gap in between prosthesis's back and socket's front surface, that is what a COP can fill each and every small gap into the socket, and no disturbance is not get to create anything in between.)

7. There is no side effects with a COP at all.

8. A COP does allows to sleep over nightly safely .

9. A COP users is always happy to use it with Comfortably and Cosmetically both.

10. A COP is unbreakable and modifiable for several time.

11. There is a proper and easiest way to maintain of a COP.

12. A COP fitted eye socket could stay well shaped even after prolong use of it.

13. Last of all, there is a very much requirement of an Expert or a Specialist called OCULARIST who only can give a lot of satisfaction from all sides even through Ethically-Medically. They can only suggest/ guide you about its uses and maintenance through a follow-up visit. An Ocularist is a certified practitioner who only can give you this type of rehabilitation
